Missouri Football's season starts on Thursday with a non-conference opener.

The Tigers will look to take a step forward under head coach Eliah Drinkwitz, who is in his third season with the program. The team hosts Louisiana Tech in their opening game as a double digit favorite. With one of the most talented rosters on hand in several years for Missouri, can they get off to a hot start?

Here are the odds for Thursday's Week 1 meeting:

Louisiana Tech vs. Missouri Odds, Spread and Total

Louisiana Tech vs. Missouri Betting Trends

  • Missouri went 0-4 against the spread (ATS) as a home favorite last season
  • Missouri went 1-4 ATS in non conference last season
  • Louisiana Tech went 2-1 ATS as a road underdog last season
  • Louisiana Tech went 3-1 in non conference play last season

Louisiana Tech vs. Missouri Prediction and Pick

Missouri will be starting Brady Cook at quarterback this season, who finished last year as the signal caller after a 6-7 campaign. The team must replace their leading rusher Tyler Badie, who rushed for 1,604 yards last season, but it does bring back four of five starters on the offensive line.

Missouri rates out as a below average SEC team, but the team should have the athleticism to get past Louisiana Tech at home, as evident in the near three touchdown spread. But can the Bulldogs find success on offense?

The Tigers are on their third defensive coordinator in three seasons, and the Bulldogs bring in new head coach Sonny Cumbie , who joins from Texas Tech after finishing last season as interim head coach and leading the Red Raiders to a bowl game victory over Mississippi State.

He was able to pluck Matthew Downing in the transfer portal from TCU and brings back three of their top four pass catchers from last season in addition to an LSU transfer Devonta Lee at tight end. Cumbie is going to look to run an air raid offense and play with tempo, which should lead to more possessions and potentially more scores.

I think this total may be underselling the pace of this game and how the Bulldogs can put together a few points. Missouri has the skill to put up points on a dire Bulldogs defense that allowed 30-plus points in all four non-conference games last season (at Mississippi State, FCS Southeast Louisiana, SMU and at NC State). However, don't count out the new look Louisiana Tech offense under Cumbie that can hang against a Missouri defense that gave up 20 or more points in every game last season.
