Luke List's History at Congaree Gives Him Inside Edge at Palmetto Championship
The large majority of the field at this week’s PGA Tour event will be stepping into unknown territory, as the Palmetto Championship will serve as a one-time replacement event for the cancelled Canadian Open.
The event will be held at Congaree Golf Club, which has never hosted a professional event, which means most golfers in the field will be setting foot on it for the first time this week.
There are a handful of golfers who do have some experience at this track, most notably Luke List, who held the course record as of last month, according to Golf Digest’s Stephen Hennessey.
WynnBET has List’s odds to win the event set at +7500 (bet $100 to profit $7,500), which makes him an intriguing dark horse bet. List has missed two straight cuts entering this week, but had an impressive T6 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship last month.
A course like Congaree, which has wide open fairways and absolutely zero rough, is a perfect fit for List, who ranks seventh on the PGA Tour in driving distance but 180th in driving accuracy. With that being said, List will need to figure out his flat stick this week if he wants to succeed, as he’ll enter the event ranked 199th in strokes gained: putting.
Another golfer who will have an edge in experience at Congaree this week is 2009 US Open winner Lucas Glover, who is a member at the course. The South Carolina native will be looking to get his first win on Tour since the 2011 Wells Fargo Championship. Glover has three top 10 finishes this season, including a T8 finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge two weeks ago.
WynnBET is giving Glover +4000 (bet $100 to profit $4,000) odds to grab the win this week.
Dustin Johnson (+750) and Brooks Koepka (+850) are slated as the betting favorites to win this week’s event, which will be used as a warm up for next week’s US Open at Torrey Pines.
