Lynx vs. Dream prediction and odds for Tuesday, July 18 (Can Atlanta continue win streak?)
By Peter Dewey
The WNBA returns from the All-Star break on Tuesday night with the Minnesota Lynx taking on the Atlanta Dream, who may be the hottest team in the league.
Atlanta entered the break on a six-game winning streak, pushing it to 11-8 on the season and into a tie for the No. 3 spot in the Eastern Conference. Rhyne Howard has been a major reason why, pushing her season points per game average to 18.5 per game by averaging 22.7 points per game on this win streak.
Howard has a 43 and 32-point game mixed in there, and the Dream are relying on her offense to carry them at the moment.
Minnesota, who had been turning things around, lost its final two games before the break to fall to 9-11 on the season. Still, Napheesa Collier and company are in third in the West at this point in the season.
Let’s dive into who has the edge in Tuesday’s matchup:
Lynx vs. Dream odds, spread and total
Lynx vs. Dream prediction and pick
Atlanta has covered in three straight games, but the team’s best trend comes when betting on the total.
The Dream are a No. 2 in the league at 12-7 on OVERs this season, and they’ve done it by playing the No. 1 pace in the WNBA.
Atlanta ranks fifth in offensive rating and seventh in defensive rating, so it’s really the extra possessions that helps the team play high scoring games.
Just take a look at the combined scores of the team’s matchups on this six-game winning streak:
- 183
- 196
- 169
- 150
- 165
- 160
The key is that Atlanta has put up at least 82 points in every single one of those games.
Minnesota, on the other hand, scored just 67 points in a 40-point loss to Dallas prior to the break.
The team has been very reliant on Collier (21.3 points per game) to carry the team’s offense with Natalie Achonwa (maternity leave), Tiffany Mitchell (wrist) and Jessica Shepard (illness) out of the lineup.
While the Lynx have been solid this season as a road team against the spread (6-3), I lean with the Dream here to either cover, or go over their team total.
