Manchester United is set to host Atalanta BC Wednesday night in UEFA Champions League action. The Red Devils have been struggling through a bit of a rough patch of late and reports even suggest that their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær is on the chopping block.

In two games thus far in the Champions League, Manchester United got beaten to open the season by Young Boys and then went on to defeat Villarreal 2-1. Atalanta, meanwhile, is sitting atop Group F after a draw to Villarreal and a win over Young Boys.

The pressure heading into this game not only for the team but also for the coach is massive for Manchester United. Will they be able to handle it or will they fall further down the Group F standings?

Let’s review the odds and matchup stats for this game and see just how worried Solskjær should be about his employment status in the near future.

Here are the odds for their matchup via WynnBET.

Manchester United vs Atalanta Prediction and Pick

This match marks the first time that Manchester United and Atalanta have faced off in competition so no matchup trends to rely on here. Atalanta is a team that has been playing a bit over their heads according to some. They have won 3 of their last 6 games against UEFA opponents from Europe. Two of those wins were over Everton in the Europa League. But, are they for real, and how reasonable is a win over a struggling Man U team really?

On paper, the home team is far superior. Especially after a busy summer that saw them sign Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane. However, things haven’t been all sunshine and roses of the last couple of weeks with losses in Europe and abroad that were quite unexpected. Aside from their loss to Young Boys, arguable the worst team in the group, the team dropped back-to-back games in West Ham United and Aston Villa in late September. Their last game out, a 4-2 loss in the Premier League to Leicester City on Saturday.

United currently sits in 2nd place in the group with 3 points. That is one point less than Atalanta has, who leads the group currently.

Despite all this negativity surrounding United, I think this is a perfect spot for them to turn their season around. They need this win to get back in control of the group and also to possibly save their manager’s job. The talent and experience are all there and I’m betting United rallies around their coach and gets a big win at home this week.
