Mariners vs. Blue Jays Prediction and Odds for Wednesday May 18 (How to Bet AL Matchup with Kevin Gausman on Mound)
By Reed Wallach
The Blue Jays are in the mix amidst American League contenders, but they are off the pace in the division race with the Yankees early on.
Toronto will look to make up ground in the division by sweeping a frisky Seattle Mariners team with ace Kevin Gausman on the mound on Wednesday night at home.
The Mariners narrowly missed the postseason last year and are looking to get over the hump, but are just 16-21 on the season. Can they pick up a quality win on Wednesday before they continue on their road trip to face the Redsox?

Mariners vs. Blue Jays Prediction and Pick
The Blue Jays are a legitimate American League contender with an elite offense, but they are not as good against left handed pitching. Toronto is league average against southpaws, .230. Marco Gonzales draws the start for the Mariners with some concerning metrics. He has an ERA of just 3.38 with a FIP of 6.27, meaning that Seattle has been helping out their pitcher in the field and some regression may be on the way for the veteran. However, the Jays inability to crush lefties leaves me concerned as a massive favorite.
While I think this may be a tough spot for the Blue Jays offense, Gausman should be able to overwhelm of the Mariners lineup. He has a 2.40 ERA while walking essentially nobody this season. His command is immaculate, striking out 54 batters while walking only 2 in 45 innings.
Gausman is a legitimate Cy Young candidate but I can't trust the Blue Jays offense against southpaws, so I do see some value on the Mariners taking over late and winning this as +200 underdogs, but I'll side with the under.
