The Seattle Mariners are surprising many in the league with their early success. The M’s have been lights out on the mound, and are hitting for a high average so far in 2022. While it’s possible they cool off at some point, I’m happy to ride this team while they are hot.

The Mariners head to loanDepot Park on Friday to kick off a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. It will be the second of three consecutive series that the Mariners are away from home. The Marlins, on the other hand, are heading back home for the first time since April 22 to start a brief homestand.

Mariners vs. Marlins Prediction and Pick

While the Mariners are pitching extremely well with a 3.04 ERA, they have been doing so in spite of Matt Brash. The rookie righty isn't playing terribly, but he has yet to put together anything I would consider a strong start. His last outing was his worst yet as he gave up three earned runs in 4 ⅓ innings. And while that doesn’t sound too awful, his metrics are suspect. The big issue I have with Brash is that he has walked more batters than he struck out over his last two games. Brash issued ten free passes in his last 9 ⅔ innings while striking out seven.

I’d like to think that Brash will turn things around against a Marlins team that struggles to score. But Brash struggled against the Royals in his last game. KC is 30th in the league in runs scored and plated three against Brash.

Elieser Hernandez gets the nod for Miami and is not having a great year either. His last game was a five-run meltdown against the Phillies. Philly has a very strong offense and Hernandez looked outmatched.

I think that despite the Marlins' issues at the plate, this game has high-scoring written all over it. The over is 4-0 in these two starters' last two starts combined and I think they get beat up again tonight.

Pick: OVER 10.5 (-110)
