The New York Mets continue to grow their lead in the NL East and currently have the best record in the entire National League. While the Mets have cooled off and are “just” 6-4 in their last 10 games, they maintain a nice cushion in between themselves and second place Philly. The Mets hope to close this series out with a win today after dropping game 1 to Seattle.

The Mariners, meanwhile, have settled into their role as an average MLB team. They are a little below .500, don’t do anything particularly well, but do everything good enough to remain in the mix.

Mariners vs. Mets Prediction and Pick

While both teams have decent arms on the mound tonight, I think I have to give the pitching edge to the Mets and Carlos Carrasco. The veteran has looked excellent in all but one start this year and has a 3.19 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. That one slip-up came against the Cardinals where Carrasco gave up eight earned runs in 3 ⅔ innings. He rebounded nicely, however, with two straight solid starts for the Mets. Carrasco threw eight shutout innings against the Braves then went 6 ⅔ innings against the Nationals while giving up two runs. He’s given up two or more runs in all but one game and I think will be a tough test for Seattle’s lineup.

Robbie Ray gets the call to start this game for Seattle after moving to 3-3 on the year with a win over Philly on Tuesday. Ray allowed two earned runs in 5 ⅔ innings while striking out 10 and walking two.  Despite lasting less than six innings, it was Ray’s best start of the season - one I think he can build upon.

I still think the Mets win this game as underdogs at home with a ton of betting value

Pick: Mets +110 to win
