The New York Mets continue their domination of the league on Friday when they host the Seattle Mariners in the first game of a three-game weekend series. The Mets are well over .500 and have the top spot in the NL East on lock with a six-game lead over the Atlanta Braves. The Mets have yet to lose a single series this year and look to kick this one off on the right foot.

The Mariners, on the other hand, went from first to third in the AL West in a hurry. Seattle is 3-12 straight up in their last 15 games and hasn’t won a series in their last five tries. They were swept twice in a row last week by the Rays and Astros. New York is a better team than most and should roll right over Seattle.

Mariners vs. Mets Prediction and Pick

As if the Mariners didn’t already have enough going against them tonight, Max Scherzer will be on the hill for New York. Scherzer is kicking father time’s ass again this year at the age of 37. I’m 37 and hurt my shoulder hanging laundry yesterday. Scherzer, meanwhile, has a 2.92 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in the bigs in 37 innings. He’s fourth in the league in strikeouts and is tied for first in the league with a 4-1 record. Scherzer did get popped a bit on Sunday by the Phillies. He gave up three runs in six innings along with ten total hits. Not the best day, but he did strike out seven while walking none.

All signs point to a Mets Game 1 win and I’m not going to try and get too cute here. The Mets on the run line are the play.

Pick: Mets -1.5
