Mariners vs. Padres Prediction and Odds for Monday, July 4 (J-Rod Is Baseball's Next Superstar)
By Josh Yourish
Seattle heads down the coast for a two-game, interleague, mini-series in San Diego. The Mariners have worked their way into second place in the AL West and nearly back to .500 at 39-42. San Diego narrowly avoided a sweep at the hands of the NL West rival, the Dodgers, with a 4-2 win last night. The Padres now sit 3.5 games back of L.A. at 47-34.
Starting pitchers for tonight are Chris Flexen (SEA) and Sean Manaea (SD).

Mariners vs. Padres Prediction and Pick
Julio Rodriguez drove in both runs of the Mariners 2-1 over Oakland yesterday with his 14th home run of his phenomenal rookie year. Rodriguez is -260 to win the AL Rookie of the Year award and that is for good reason. J-Rod’s numbers are reminiscent of another Mariners outfield phenom.
Rodriguez’s .820 OPS is a bit skewed by a bad first month.
He is not a star in the making, he is a star and Seattle is making a run behind his recent hot streak. The Mariners have won seven of 10, but that stretch was against Oakland, Baltimore and the Los Angeles Angels.
The Padres have struggled lately, going 3-7 in their last 10 games and they have only hit .215 over that stretch. This is still a step up in competition for Seattle, but I think the Mariners are up to the task today.
Pick: Mariners +1.5 (-150)
