The Mariners and Rangers, who are on the opposite ends of the postseason spectrum, are set to do battle today. Although the major difference in records, the odds say this is going to be one of the closer games of the day. 

Seattle is just 1.5 games up on the Orioles, who are the first team out of the postseason. The Mariners are nowhere close to being secure, so can they get a win today and bolster their case?

The Rangers are going with stunning Dane Dunning to toe the rubber for them, and I think he gives them the edge. He’s coming off a great start against the White Sox, one-hitting Chicago. Dunning has allowed just over 2 runs per start over his last five starts. He’s doing some of his best pitching right now, which can’t be said for Marco Gonzales. 

Gonzales has allowed over 5 runs in three of his last five starts. He’s allowed at least 8 hits in four of his last five starts – and he’s played the Rangers in two of those games. He is not who the Mariners want on the mound today.
