By Josh Yourish
The Seattle Mariners are holding onto the second Wild Card spot in the American league and are getting some reinforcements after taking two of three from the Yankees. Julio Rodriguez is set to make his return to the lineup tonight against the Texas Rangers.
Seattle turns to George Kirby to make his 16th start with the Mariners at 61-52 and Texas hands the ball to Josh Sborz to make his first career start in what will likely be a bullpen game. The Rangers are 49-62.

Mariners vs. Rangers Prediction and Pick
Julio Rodriguez has not played since July 30 when he was hit on the hand with a pitch. He makes his triumphant return to the lineup with his team in a great spot. They have gone 6-4 in their last 10 games with two big series wins against the Yankees during his absence. Losing their star center fielder with six games against New York could have sunk their season, but they didn’t just tread water, they further established themselves as a threat in the American League.
With J-Rod’s return, the Mariners are getting back a serious power bat. He only has 18 home runs, but is 95th percentile in hard hit rate and barrel percentage, and in the top 15% of the league in expected slugging. He has an .816 OPS, 21 stolen bases, and is in the 94th percentile of outs above average. So, he is more than just a power bat, he is a true five-tool superstar that will give this lineup even more juice.
George Kirby has been another solid rookie contributor for the Mariners and hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a start since June 27.
Pick: Mariners -1.5 (+100)
