Mariners vs. Red Sox Prediction and Odds for Thursday, May 19 (All Eyes on Seattle Rookie George Kirby)
By Matt De Saro
Two early-season disappointments clash on Thursday when the Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox open a four-game series at Fenway.
Both teams sit in fourth place in their respective divisions, wondering just what the hell happened over the last month of play. Both were fighting for a first-place spot earlier in the year, and now both are battling to avoid last place. They are showing signs of life after losing streaks, but there is still a long way to go for Seattle and Boston to climb out of the holes they've dug.

Mariners vs. Red Sox Prediction and Pick
I have to admit I was wrong about Rich Hill.
I’ve been regularly fading him; waiting for him to fall back into his early-season habits.
Well, I’m tired of losing to this 42-year-old.
Hill has a 2.89 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 28 innings after posting an ERA of 7.00 in his first two starts. How did he manage this? Well, he gave up just two earned runs in his previous four starts spanning 19 innings. Hill pitched three straight scoreless starts against Tampa Bay, Baltimore, and Los Angeles Angeles in the last two weeks and now I don’t see him slowing down -- at least not against an offense that ranks 21st in runs per game.
The Mariners counter with red-hot rookie George Kirby in this series opener. Despite only having pitched 10 innings over two starts, Kirby has impressed many across the league. Against the Mets and Rays, Kirby allowed a single earned run while striking out eight and walking just one. I’m not going to overreact to this, but I’m not going to ignore it either. While this kid might not develop into anything, he’s hot right now and that is all that matters.
I think we could be in for a sneaky good pitching duel here. As bad as these offenses are, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a very low-scoring game on Thursday.
Pick: UNDER 8.5 (-110)
