After being rained out for opening day, we will finally begin the Mariners and Twins seasons on Friday afternoon.

Seattle will look to follow up a surprising season in Wild Card contention with a promising cast of talent while the Twins will look to capitalize on some offseason momentum, signing Carlos Correa in the offseason to join forces with AL MVP candidate Byron Buxton.

Who has the edge on opening day in Minnesota? Let's check out the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Mariners vs. Twins Odds, Run Line, Total

Moneyline:

  • Mariners: -102
  • Twins: -108

Run Line:

  • Mariners: -1.5 (+150)
  • Twins: +1.5 (-180)

Total: 8 (Over +100/Under -120)

Mariners vs. Twins Prediction and Pick

The Mariners hand the ball to their prize offseason acquisition, 2021 AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray. While he may not be a consistent Cy Young threat, Ray should be able to navigate the Twins lineup with his power pitching. Last season, Ray put it all together, leading the league in strike outs and limiting his career-long walk issue, posting a career-best and league-best WHIP (walks, hits per innings pitched) of 1.045.

While the Twins have some big bats, they are going to be asking a lot from their 25-year-old rookie Joe Ryan, who is drawing the opening day start. Despite having a strong spring training, I'm going to side with the emerging Seattle lineup that is anchored by Rookie of the Year candidate Julio Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was electric in Spring Training, earning a roster spot, and the team has veteran hitters around him like Ty France, who thrived in his first full season in the bigs, and offseason acquisitions Jesse Winker (.394 OBP in 2021) and Eugenio Suarez (31 homers, but needs to find his consistency after hitting .198 last season).

I like the Mariners to get off on the right foot behind Ray and grab a road victory to start 2022.

LEAN: Mariners -102
