The Atlanta Braves have managed to climb back into second place in the NL East but that doesn’t mean that this team is out of the woods just yet. They still trail the New York Mets by 7.5 games and are just one game ahead of the Phillies in third place. The Braves have been below .500 since April 16 and at 22-24 have a few games to get back a winning record. The Braves have had decent success against division opponents over the last week with a 5-3 combined record against the Phillies and Marlins.

The Braves are back at it on Saturday as they continue their current three-game home series against the Miami Marlins. Atlanta won Game 1 by a score of 6-4 on Friday and would love nothing more than to further distance itself from the Phillies.

Marlins vs. Braves Prediction and Pick

I'll kick this preview off by saying I do not understand the odds for this game one bit. Yes, the Marlins are a worse team than the Braves and usually deserve to be underdogs in this matchup, but these two starters are worlds apart -- giving the Marlins a huge edge on the mound.

Tucker Davidson will make his third start of the year with a very poor 8.71 ERA in 10 ⅓ innings pitched. He’s walked nine batters compared to seven strikeouts and one HBP. His WHIP is at 2.03 and yet, the Braves are -110 favorites here.

Meanwhile, Sandy Alcantara will get the start for Maimi. Alcantara had a career game on Sunday when he blanked this very same Braves team in a complete-game shutout (At least in terms of earned runs as the Braves scored three unearned). This guy pitched a three-hitter less than a week ago against this team and is getting dogged in the odds for this afternoon. The Marlins are 3-0 in his last three starts and Alcantara has a 2.36 ERA so far in May.

I almost want to grab the reverse run line here but will temper my expectations and play it safe with the Marlins to win outright.

Pick: Marlins +100 ML
