This could be one of the best games on today’s schedule thanks to both the Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies coming into this series on hot streaks. The Phillies swept the Angels and Brewers and took two of three from the Diamondbacks in the lead-up to hosting Miami. With a 9-1 record in their previous ten games, the Phils' offense appears to have woken up from a weak start. Despite that slow start, the Phillies are 3-1 straight up against the Marlins this year.

The Marlins enjoyed a strong week at the plate as well, winning five of their previous six games before this series kicked off last night.

With both teams on the upswing, it will be interesting to see which way this game goes.

Here are the odds for this game from consensus sportsbooks.

Marlins vs. Phillies Odds, Run Line, and Total

Run Line

  • Marlins: +1.5 (-145)
  • Phillies: -1.5 (+125)

Moneyline:

  • Marlins: +140
  • Phillies: -160

Total:

  • Total 8.5 (Over -115/Under -105)

Marlins vs. Phillies Prediction and Pick

While there is a lot to like about the Marlins right now, their starting pitcher today is not one of them. Trevor Rogers has been a major weak spot in the rotation since his first start and enters this game with a 5.58 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 50 innings.

That would be bad enough but Rogers is only getting worse as the season progresses. He posted a 5.09 ERA in April, and a 5.32 ERA in May, and so far in June has seen that grow to 7.27. The worst part of this all might be the fact that his last two awful starts came against two awful defenses.

The Nationals and Rockies scored a combined seven runs on Rogers in his last 8 ⅔ innings. The final nail in Rogers’ coffin is his terrible .307 batting average against the current Phillies lineup. He’s allowed 15 hits in 58 at bats, seven of which were of the extra-base variety.

On the flipside, Zach Eflin has been pitching very well for the Phillies as he prepares for his 11th start of the year. Eflin has a solid 3.76 ERA and 1.18 so far this year and is trending upwards after a strong start to June. So far this month, in 12 innings, Eflin has a 0.75 ERA against the Brewers and Angels. While he’s not going to make any All-Star ballots, Eflin has the chops to lead the Phillies past Rogers and the Marlins today.

Pick: Phillies Moneyline (-160)
