Marquette vs. Georgetown Prediction & Odds (Take Hoyas in the Home Upset)
By Matt De Saro
The Marquette Golden Eagles hope they can build off of a massive upset win over No. 16 Providence. Not only did the Golden Eagles beat a ranked opponent, but they blew the doors off the Friars 88-56 at home. It was a strong win for a team that was riding a four-game losing streak and falling out of contention in the Big East. The Golden Eagles are still 9th in the division and 9-6 overall, but the win shows that they have the talent and the fight to beat anyone.
Georgetown, meanwhile, hasn’t played a game since Dec. 18 as their last four games have been put on hold due to COVID-19. Their last win was way back on Dec. 15 in a game against Howard. Their last game was a loss to TCU 80-73 that dropped their record to 6-5 overall and into 10th place in the Big East.

Marquette vs. Georgetown Prediction and Pick
While Marquette comes off a massive win, they are a wildly inconsistent group. They started the season on a 5-0 hot streak including a win over Illinois, a top-10 team at the time. They also beat Ole Miss and West Virginia in impressive games. However, not long after suffering their first loss to St. Bonaventure, the Golden Eagles went on a four-game losing streak. What makes those losses particular ugly is that they were all to Big East competition and Marquette is now in a huge hole in the conference. Then, they snapped their losing streak in a big win over Providence. The team is also very shaky against the spread and went 3-6 ATS in their previous nine games before Providence.
It is impossible to speak about the recent results of G-Town because, due to COVID, they really have none. I am sure they are just happy to be getting back on the court after weeks of postponements. Before their hiatus, the Hoyas were playing inconsistent ball much like their opponents in this game. Georgetown lost to St. Joseph’s as 7 point favorites but then beat Syracuse as 3.5-point dogs. When they are winning, it is thanks to their offense that ranks within the top-50 in scoring and 13th in the nation in rebounding.
I think that Marquette being favored here might be a bit of recency bias after upsetting Providence. Neither team has been all that impressive overall but Georgetown has had weeks to rest, practice, and dying to get back to action. The Hoyas match up well and have a big edge on the glass and in scoring offense. I'll take the home team Hoyas to win another game as an underdog.
Pick: Georgetown +110 ML
