The Maryland Terrapins are set to face the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Pinstripe Bowl, taking place at Yankee Stadium, on Wednesday, December 29th.

Neither team reached their preseason heights, especially Virginia Tech, which fired their coach Justin Fuente during the season. Overall, both teams went 6-6 on the year.

Maryland vs. Virginia Tech Prediction and Pick

This line opened as a pick 'em but has since moved to the Terps, making them -3.5-point favorites after Virginia Tech had several players opt out of the bowl game, including starting quarterback Braxton Burmeister.

There are several other Hokies not playing, which will leave the team short handed on both sides of the ball, however the Hokies did bolster a top 20 defensive pass success rate that should keep a lid on the Maryland passing attack.

While Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has flashed his ability at times, he also makes questionable decisions, tossing 11 interceptions on the season.

With so many questions about motivation on the Virginia Tech sideline and a seldom-used backup QB, Connor Blumrick, as the starter, I can't take the points, but I'm not rushing to back the Terps as favorites considering they went 1-2 ATS this season in that situation.

With all that said, my best bet will be on the under. Both teams play at a methodical pace. Va. Tech is 86th in plays per minute while Maryland is 100th, and the Hokies run the ball at a top 20 rate in the country.

While the Terps throw the ball at a high rate (top 15 in the country), the Virginia Tech secondary should be in solid shape with safety Chamarri Conner opting to play for this one and keeping Maryland's passing game under control in a low scoring affair. I also don't envision many scoring chances for the depleted Hokies offense.

PICK: Under 54.5
