Maryland’s offense got shut down last week in their 23-10 loss to Wisconsin and now they’ll have an even tougher test in Happy Valley against No. 14 Penn State. The Nittany Lions host the Terrapins following a much needed 45-15 rout of Indiana last week. That win was a bounce back from their loss to Ohio State and now James Franklin’s team is 7-2. Maryland had a real chance to climb their way into the top of the Big 10 this year, but now at 6-3 with Penn State and Ohio State on deck, things could turn ugly in College Park.

Let’s take a look at the odds and betting trends for this Big 10 matchup.

Maryland vs. Penn State Odds, Spread and Total

Penn State and Maryland Betting Trends

  • Maryland is 4-5 ATS
  • Penn State is 6-3 ATS
  • The Over is 7-2 in Penn State games
  • Maryland is 0-4 ATS in last four games
  • Under is 4-0 in last four meetings
  • Penn State is 5-1 ATS in last six meetings

Maryland vs. Penn State Prediction and Pick

In the past we have seen this budding rivalry turn ugly with blowouts both ways. Penn State has largely dominated the series, but in 2020, Maryland flipped the script with a 35-19 win. Last year, Penn State took it 31-14. The Nittany Lions are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings, they own this rivalry and I don’t see that changings this season.

James Franklin can never win the Ohio State or Michigan game on Penn State’s schedule, his specialty is running up the score on mediocre Maryland teams. He has done it so often in the past and this feels like a prime spot for a blowout win at home. Last week, Wisconsin held Taulia Tagovailoa to 77 yards passing. He may have more success against Penn State, the Nittany Lion defense is 72nd against the pass. However, Maryland is not playing well right now and faces the toughest part of their schedule. The Penn State defense front should control the line of scrimmage and the young running backs for Penn State will run wild on Maryland.

Pick: Penn State -10 (-110)
