The Purdue Boilermakers enter today’s game against the Maryland Terrapins as the No. 3 team in the country, and rightly will be large home favorites in this game. The betting trends and the abilities of these two teams paints a pretty clear picture of what we should expect this afternoon.

Let’s start with the odds via WynnBET.

Spread:

  • Maryland +16.0 (-110)
  • Purdue -16.0  (-110)

Maryland vs. Purdue Prediction and Pick

Purdue is one of the best teams in the country, and they’re coming off a surprise upset blowout at the hands of University of Michigan, 82-58. It was certainly a shocking result. Michigan outrebounded them 35-25, and held Purdue to only five assists in the game. Purdue was ice cold from distance, making only four of 18 three point shots, while Michigan hit a scorching 12/21. It was just one of those games.

Purdue not being able to score was a weird sight, considering they rank fourth in the country in points per game at 83.4. They also average the sixth-most assists with 17.6, and have the third-best effective field goal percentage at 58.7%. It was just a weird, flukey, horrible off night for them, but I find it hard to believe that we’ll see that continue against Maryland.

Maryland is 11-13 and is on a four game losing streak. They rank 162nd in points per game at 70.4, and are susceptible to getting beaten on the perimeter. Maryland allows a 34.9% three point percentage while giving up 24.2 three point attempts per game. They struggle to defend the outside, and Purdue can take advantage.

With more than two days off, Purdue is 9-6 against the spread this year. They aren’t incredibly convincing when home favorites though, going 7-7 against the spread in such games. Still, a motivated team near the top of the rankings will be looking to get back on track at home against an uninspiring team that’s dropped four games in a row. I’m backing Purdue to assert themselves in this game.

Pick: Purdue -16.0 (-110)
