Carolina Panthers receiver Robby Anderson missed practice on Wednesday with a mild hamstring issue, and it may have exposed a weakness for the Panthers.

Head coach Matt Rhule was not happy with his receivers during the team’s joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens.

"I didn't like the passing game at all," Rhule said after practice.

Not a great sign when you have a new quarterback that your passing game is lagging behind. However, it wasn’t Sam Darnold that Rhule was frustrated with.

"They're good, and you'd like to have Robby out here," Rhule said. "Some of these guys are tired, and I say that more as a jab. Little sun out here today, and all of a sudden we're tired, feel sorry for ourselves. I told some of our young guys, you don't get to like all the Instagram posts, and then come out here and not practice well. What you did last week doesn't matter. It's about what you did today.

"Sam was sharp today, protected himself well, against all the blitzes. Quarterbacks were sharp, put the ball where it was supposed to be, guys have to make some catches."

The Panthers, who are led by DJ Moore at receiver, are trying to replace Curtis Samuel after he signed with the Washington Football Team in free agency.

Moore, who is +4500 to lead the NFL in receiving at WynnBET , is locked into his role but if Anderson isn’t healthy soon, the Panthers need to find someone to step up.

Second-round pick Terrace Marshall Jr., who made some big plays in the preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts, figures to be the guy to step up but Rhule clearly lit a fire under all of his wideouts after practice.

Marshall is +5000 to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award at WynnBET, but unlike other rookie wideouts, he doesn’t have odds to lead the NFL in receiving behind Anderson (+15000) and Moore.

Christian McCaffrey figures to be a major part of Carolina’s passing game this season, but after Samuel put up 851 receiving yards and 200 rushing yards last season, Rhule needs to find a replacement for that production out of his current receiving group.
