The NBA is kicking the season off being as messy as possible, scheduling the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns to face off.

The last time we saw these teams play, the Mavericks were blowing the Suns out in Game 7 of the second round.

Phoenix has remained intact and will be ready to get its revenge on the new-look Mavericks. Dallas has made several roster changes, including letting Jalen Brunson walk (although Brunson made the choice himself) out the door to New York.

Will the Mavericks be able to duplicate their performance in Game 7 or will the Suns finally strike back after an offseason of shame?

Here are the odds for the matchup:

Mavericks vs. Suns Prediction and Pick

While I think the Mavs will finish the season higher than the Suns, Phoenix will get its revenge in Game 1. The loss of Jalen Brunson is going to be a big deal to start the season. The Mavericks will have to figure out how to replace his scoring and playmaking – while also trying to integrate Christian Wood into the rotation.

Phoenix will have it’s starting lineup back and it was a good lineup last season. In an extremely small sample size, the Suns projected starting lineup was +30.7. They’ll have shooting, an interior presence and the best wing defender in the league to put on Luka.

It’s been a tumultuous offseason for the Suns. Consider this a light at the end of the tunnel for them.
