Melvin Gordon or Latavius Murray or Chase Edmonds: Who Will Lead Broncos' Backfield?
The Denver Broncos haven’t had the best offensive season. Their hundred-million dollar quarterback is stinking up the place, their lead back tore his ACL and the head coach has looked in over his head all season.
After all of that, Denver still doesn’t know who its top running back is.
Last season, Melvin Gordon would have easily been the clear starter last season, but his fumbling problems have opened the door open to a running back by committee. Yet, the Broncos traded for Chase Edmonds at the deadline to bolster the running game.
Now that there are three backs, who should you trust to bet on?
Who Will Be the Denver Broncos Starting Running Back?
In the Broncos’ Week 8 matchup with the Jaguars, Latavius Murray got a majority of the carries with 14. Even though Gordon was available, he had less than 10 carries.
Murray and Gordon have split the responsibilities, but neither have been efficient runners.
Now that Edmonds is in the mix, expect him to take a majority of the work. Denver got Edmonds back in the Bradley Chubb deal, so it would make sense for the Broncos to try and get a return on their investment.
After the first week of the season, Edmonds hasn’t 10 carries in a game since. That should surely go up.
With all the mouths to feed in Denver, we should wait until after their bye week to see what the plan is moving forward to make a bet. However, given the Broncos gave up assets midseason to get one of the backs, I would be surprised if Edmonds wasn't eventually leading the backfield.
