Men's 2022 French Open Tennis Odds (Nadal Has Big Edge on Djokovic)
Rafael Nadal won his 21st career grand slam title in Australia, breaking a tie with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer for the most all time, and is favored to extend his record at the French Open in May.
Based on the latest rules in France, his biggest competition may be a non-factor.
Nadal is currently +150 to win his 14th French Open title followed by Djokovic (+225) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (+450). Alexander Zverev, who lost to Nadal in the Australian Open final and is stronger on hard courts than clay, is +1400.
Djokovic is the defending French Open champion, his second title at Roland Garros, but might not be allowed to play this year. France instituted a new law beginning Feb. 15 stating anyone who is not vaccinated against coronavirus, which Djokovic is not, must show proof they tested positive for COVID-19 within the previous four months to enter sports venues in France. Djokovic said he tested positive in mid-December. That means he either needs to get vaccinated or get COVID again to play in France.
Still, this is all about Nadal, who has a 105-3 record at Rolland Garros. He lost to Djokovic in the semifinals last year, his first loss there since 2016, and will look to add to his vast collection of trophies from the French Open. He's the big favorite for a reason and if Djokovic can't play those odds will only increase.
Dominic Thiem, who has made two French Open finals, losing to Nadal in both, is +700 to win the title. Tsitsipas lost to Djokovic in the finals last year. If Novak can't play, expect their odds to come down.
