Maybe firing Joe Maddon was all the 29-32 Angels needed to get back on track. Firing a Joe worked for the Phillies, and now Los Angeles have won two of three ahead of a Sunday Night Baseball matchup with the 39-22 New York Mets.

The Angels had lost 14 straight before finally notching a win over Boston, and now hope to pull off a series victory over the National League's best team. They'll send Patrick Sandoval to the mound, who has a 3-1 record and 2.82 ERA on the year, but has struggled in his last two starts.

New York will counter with Taijuan Walker, who has lost two straight outings but has been effective overall with a 3-2 record and 3.28 ERA.

Can Los Angeles secure a series victory, or will the Mets put the clamp down in front of a national audience? Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to help us pick a winner in this Mets vs Angels Sunday Night Baseball matchup:

Mets vs Angels Prediction and Pick

I know the Mets are just 4-5 over their last nine, but are we really sure they should be underdogs here? Did we all forget that after winning two of three, the Angels are now a whopping 2-15 over their last 17 games?

Sure, Patrick Sandoval is having a nice season, but he's given up seven runs and issued seven walks over his last 7.2 innings, so there's something going on. His underlying metrics aren't as friendly as his surface-level ones either. He has a 2.81 ERA, but just a 3.57 expected ERA, implying he's been lucky. Taijuan Walker's 4.18 expected ERA is worse, but he's limited his opponent to three or fewer runs in five of his last six starts.

The Mets have the much more dangerous lineup, ranking ninth in OPS over the last two weeks while the Angels are 21st. New York has the bullpen advantage as well and are an impressive 6-5 outright over their last 11 as a road underdog.

Los Angeles is 1-5 over their last six as a home favorite, and I'm not ready to trust them yet against a powerhouse like the Mets. I'll back the better team at plus money and trust New York can get to Sandoval.

Pick: Mets (+102)
