New York Mets fans will have to wait just one more day until the long-awaited return of Jacob deGrom. He is slated to start on Tuesday in Washington DC, but to pass the time for now, they’ll just have to watch Max Scherzer take on his former team on Monday night.

Scherzer makes his 14th start of the season he is 6-2 with a 2.09 ERA and is the first blow of the Mets 1-2 punch at the top of their rotation. Patrick Corbin will face his former teammate and make his 22nd start of 2022.

Mets vs. Nationals Prediction and Pick

It is certainly not the first time that Max Scherzer has returned to DC in an opposing uniform. I’m sure by now, the novelty has worn off for the Nats fans and they’ve quickly grown tired of seeing one of the best pitchers in baseball no longer a part of their team.

The salt in the wound I’m sure is having to watch the artist formerly known as Patrick Corbin go out every five days. Corbin is clearly a shell of his former self and has not had his stuff this year at all. Though credit to him for being a good soldier and eating innings for the worst team in the MLB.

There is really no sign of hope for the Nationals especially when Corbin takes the mound. Washington is 4-17 in his starts this season and lost all five starts he made in the month of July. It will be a huge run line in this one and there will still be value on the Mets. Even at -2.5, because 12 of those 17 losses have come by three or more runs.

Pick: Mets -1.5 (-145)
