Two NL East contenders are set to square off in Philadelphia when the New York Mets travel to take on the Philadelphia Phillies.

Both the Mets and Phillies had strong starts to the season, each winning their opening series and now will face off in an early season barometer test for both seasons.

New York went 3-1 against another NL East foe in the Washington Nationals while the Phillies beat up on the lowly Oakland Athletics. Who has the edge in the opening game of this series with both teams looking to build winning habits?

Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Mets vs. Phillies, Run Line, Odds, Total

Run Line:

  • Mets: +1.5 (-145)
  • Phillies: -1.5 (+120)

Moneyline:

  • Mets: +138
  • Phillies: -148

Total: 9 (Over -125/Under -105)

Mets vs. Phillies Prediction and Pick

After being inconsistent last season, the Mets lineup seems to be as dangerous as anyone in the National League. The likes of Starling Marte and Mark Canha are proving to be fantastic additions around Pete Alonso in the Mets lineup and the team seems equipped to put up runs against a still vulnerable Phillies pitching staff.

While Ranger Suarez is a dangerous left handed arm, the Phils bullpen that has held the team back in recent years is still unproven and the Mets ascent on offense can put that unit to the test on Monday night.

Meanwhile, the Mets will send out Taijuan Walker for his first start of the season. After earning his first All-Star nod of his career in 2021, Walker fell off a cliff in the second half of last season, posting a 6.60 ERA after the start of July.

The Phillies lineup is as vaunted as advertised, with free agent signings Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos acclimating quickly to the lineup around Bryce Harper. I think we see a high scoring affair with the suspect pitching on the mound and power at the dish.
