The New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds are set to begin a three game series in Cincinnati tonight.

WynnBET has the Reds set as -120 home favorites and the Mets as +100 underdogs on the road. The total for the game is set at 10.5, which is an eye-popping number as it’s the highest total in a Mets game since April 18th, which was a game that took place at Coors Field in Colorado.

With how the Mets have played this year, I have no choice but to take the under on a total of 10.5.

New York is one of the best defensive teams in Major League Baseball, while also being one of the worst offensive teams. That’s generally a recipe for low totals and a lot of unders. The Mets rank sixth in the majors in team earned run average at 3.53, and 29th in runs per game at 3.80.

One of the reasons for the high total is likely due to Jerad Eickhoff getting the start on the mound for the Mets. This will only be the fourth appearance and third start for Eickhoff this season, and he enters the game with a 4.97 ERA and a 1.658 WHIP. He’ll try to repeat his performance he had in his June 21 start against the Braves when he pitched four scoreless innings.

Vladimir Gutierrez gets the start for the Reds, and he enters the game with a 4-3 record and a 4.29 ERA. He’s entering the game coming off two strong starts, giving up only three earned runs in his last twelve combined innings pitched.

While the game won’t feature any All-Star level pitchers, the Reds and Mets offense has been subpar at best in recent games. Dating back to the beginning of June, the Reds and Mets rank 17th and 24th respectively in OPS.

I refuse to even consider taking the over 10.5 in a game that involves the Mets. Give me the under at +100 odds.
