Mets vs. Rockies Game 2 Prediction and Odds for Saturday, May 21 (New York Lefty Struggles Lead to Under)
By Reed Wallach
The Mets and Rockies will complete a double header on Saturday after Friday's snowout.
The second half of the double header is currently set to have the Mets operate in a bullpen game with Trevor Williams starting against the Rockies while the home team will counter with lefty Austin Gomber.
While the record between the two teams big, New York is tops in the NL East while the Rockies are at the bottom of the NL West, is there an edge to betting the home underdog on Saturday night? Let's check out the odds from consensus sportsbooks:
Mets vs. Rockies Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Mets: -1.5 (+125)
- Rockies: +1.5 (-150)
Moneyline:
- Mets: -125
- Rockies: +105
Total: 10 (Over -110/Under -110)
Mets vs. Rockies Prediction and Pick
The Mets have been one of the best all around baseball teams in 2022. The team may have injuries to the rotation, but the sum of the parts have negated the loss of Jacob deGrom and now Max Scherzer. As well, the offense has been elite overall, but they have struggled against lefties, 25th in batting average. They will face Rockies starter Austin Gomber on Saturday night as he hopes to pounce on a weak hitting lineup in this matchup.
Gomber should be in line for a strong outing, while Williams and the Mets pen can hold up nicely after getting an extra day off in Colorado. Yes, it's a double header, but New York should have a full arsenal to deploy against a middling Rockies offense.
Overall, with cold weather expected in Denver on Saturday night (even more snow), I'm banking on a low scoring affair. The Mets offense is being counted on to generate a ton of runs in Coors Field, but the weather and their struggles against lefties are driving me towards the under.
LEAN: UNDER 10
