The New York Jets are surprisingly 3-2 on the season, and they have an impressive young core of offensive players, especially at the running back position.

2022 second-round pick Breece Hall is starting to show why he was ranked as the No. 1 back in his class, as he broke out for a monster game in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins.

Hall’s performance came when he got a season-high in snap percentage over Michael Carter, and he out touched Carter 20-12 in the game.

It’s a bit of a change from earlier in the season, as Carter was the lead back in Week 1, and the two had a relatively even split in other games. Has Hall officially run away with the lead back role? When you look at the numbers, it’s hard to argue…

Michael Carter vs. Breece Hall Stat Comparison in 2022 Season

Carries:

  • Carter: 47
  • Hall: 56

Rushing Yards (Yards Per Carry):

  • Carter: 158 (3.4)
  • Hall: 275 (4.9)

Targets (Receptions):

  • Carter: 21 (17)
  • Hall: 29 (17

Receiving Yards:

  • Carter: 100
  • Hall: 213

Touchdowns:

  • Carter: 2
  • Hall: 3

Following his breakout in Week 5, Hall now leads Carter in every single major category, outside of the two being tied in receptions.

It’s also worth noting that Hall’s two best games came with Zach Wilson under center, and the Jets second-year quarterback should lead the team the rest of the 2022 season, barring injury.

Carter, who is a great change of pace back, has shown that he can’t exactly handle a major workload, while Hall has thrived with an expanded role.

If you’re looking to target either back in fantasy or prop bets, Hall is the way to go, especially since his usage in the passing game has been so high lately. I personally think taking a shot on Hall’s rushing and receiving yards props in Week 6 against a tough Green Bay Packers defense could be worth it, as Wilson may have to check down often.

The Jets invested major draft capital into Hall, so I’d expect this split to become more and more uneven (in Hall’s favor) as the rookie continues to produce.
