Michigan State’s season has been so bad that they had to resort to beating Michigan players in the tunnel after the game instead of on the field. The Spartans are now 3-5 after the 29-7 loss to Michigan and have to face the best scoring defense in the nation, the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Let me be more clear, that would be the 7-1 Illinois Fighting Illini led by head coach, Bret Bielema who are ranked No. 16 in the country. This team is a big surprise after a 5-7 campaign last season, and we will see if they can keep the party going in the Big 10 this week.

Michigan State vs. Illinois Prediction and Pick

The Illinois defense is the star of the show, no question about it. They are first in the country allowing just 8.9 points per game. They only allow 148.9 passing yards per game, second in the country, and 75.6 rushing yards per game, second in the country. This defense is dominant in every aspect. A season ago, they were 29th in the nation and allowed 21.9 points per game, which is good, but the jump they have made is incredible.

Tommy Devito’s success should not be ignored either. Devito has thrown for 1,594 yards while completing 72.5% of his passes with 12 touchdowns and only two interceptions. He has even rushed for four TDs this year. This team doesn’t turn the ball over and they are 62nd in the nation in total offense. Which doesn’t sound amazing, but is just behind Mississippi State and Mike Leach’s air raid system.

The Fighting Illini will not score like crazy, but the Michigan State's season is already over, they got destroyed by Michigan and now they are mired in controversy after the fight in the tunnel. I faded Illinois against Nebraska last week because I didn’t think they could cover a big spread but they proved me wrong, so I’ll ride the Fighting Illini this week.

Pick: Illinois -17 (-110)
