Michigan vs. Iowa Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 5
By Reed Wallach
Michigan tore through an easy non-conference schedule, but was challenged in its first Big Ten matchup last weekend. Will that wakeup call help it in its first road test against Iowa?
The No. 4 ranked Wolverines head to Kinnick Field to take on Iowa and one of the best defenses in the country in a rematch from last season's Big Ten Championship game. Do the Wolverines have the edge, or was last week's non cover against Maryland an ominous sign of things to come?
Let's break down the odds from FanDuel Sportsbook:
Michigan vs. Iowa Odds, Spread and Total
Michigan vs. Iowa Betting Trends
- Since 2012, Iowa is 6-4 against the spread (ATS) as a home underdog
- Michigan is 31-29-1 ATS in Big Ten play under Jim Harbaugh
- Michigan has not gone OVER any game this season (0-3-1)
- Iowa has gone UNDER in three of four games this season, including all three at home
Michigan vs. Iowa Prediction and Pick
Iowa is an intriguing case study as the defense seems to be its best source of offense. Last week on the road against Rutgers, Iowa scored two touchdowns on defensive scores and 13 points elsewhere en route to a 27-10 victory.
Now it faces a far better Michigan offense that is going to try and keep this game on the ground and is coming off a hard fought win against Maryland. Blake Corum rushed for 243 yards on 30 carries, but the Iowa defense is fantastic everywhere, top 10 in success rate.
I don't trust Spencer Petras to put up points against a strong Michigan defense, but the Wolverines aren't going to push the pace and put J.J. McCarthy in trouble in his first true road start.
Neither team plays fast, each outside the top 100 in plays per minute this season, and I can see a very conservative game plan for Michigan.
Iowa wants to play low scoring games, and it will get its wish at home.
