Mid-Week Line Movement: Lions Picking Up Momentum For First Win

Sometimes two bad teams can have a great game and tomorrow the Bears and Lions hope to do just that.

If the oddsmakers are right, the winless Detroit Lions might have their best chance at making a move into the win column on Thanksgiving against the Chicago Bears. The odds opened for this game with the Bears set as 3.5 point favorites. Since then, the line has been set down to -3. The total has also been on the move since opening at 43.

Here are the updated odds for this Thanksgiving Day game, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Bears vs Lions Updated Spread and Total Odds

Spread:

  • Bears: -3.0 (-110) / Opened 3.5
  • Lions: +3.0 (-110)

Moneyline:

  • Bears: -150 / -175
  • Lions: +130 / +155

Total:

  • 41.5 (Over -110/Under -110) / Opened 43.0

While the line movement isn’t dramatic, the direction it's moving is rather surprising. It’s not like the Bears are a great team or even good, but the Lions are on a whole other level of sucking. They haven’t won a game since Week 13 of last year. Ironically, that win came against the Chicago Bears 34-30 the week after Thanksgiving.

So, with nothing but pride on the line for each of these teams, and maybe a few jobs, can the Lions actually win? Well, if the Lions were going to get the better of a team it probably would be the Bears. Chicago is coming off a three-point loss after the defense allowed the Ravens’ backup QB Tyler Huntley to lead the team on a game-winning drive. While there is no denying the Bears are bad, the Lions are just that much worse.

These two teams have already played this season in Week 4 with the Bears winning 24-14 and covering the spread easily. But, the Bears have gone just 1-4 ATS since then. No matter which way you slice it, this is the Lions' best shot at winning a game this season and lord knows they want to avoid becoming the first 0-17 team in NFL history.
