Mid-Week Movement: Cowboys vs. Buccaneers, More Money Pouring in on Tampa Bay

Plenty of bettors expect Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to have their way with the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.

Most weeks, oddsmakers tend to hang a slightly inflated line against the Dallas Cowboys, with "America's Team" representing the more popular plays during the NFL season.

In the case of Week 1, however, oddsmakers are pleading with bettors to take the side of the Cowboys.

After opening up the Cowboys vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup with Tampa Bay as -6.5-point favorites at home, the line at WynnBET Sportsbook has now brought the Bucs all the way up to 8.0-point favorites when both teams kick off the season at 8:20 pm ET Thursday night on NBC.

WynnBET is even offering a unique promotion to incentivize bettors to take the side of the Cowboys, offering the chance to take triple the odds for Dallas. Bettors at WynnBET can now hop on board at +22.5 odds instead! If the Cowboys can cover, meaning they lose by only 22 points or less (as well as win outright), your bet covers!

The Cowboys have shown the public little reason to support them vs. the Buccaneers

Dak Prescott may be the favorite for NFL Comeback Player of the Year and a popular fantasy football draftee at quarterback, but his offseason road to recovery has hit some speed bumps. Prescott, after suffering a season-ending ankle injury after five games last year, has dealt with shoulder soreness throughout Training Camp and in the preseason, causing him to sit out every game on the Cowboys' schedule. All reports are that Prescott is good to go for the season opener, but with no in-game opportunities to re-establish a connection with his talented group of wide receivers, it's difficult for bettors to feel optimistic about Prescott; at least right away.

Additionally, the Bucs are a popular pick not just for Week 1, but to get back to the Super Bowl for the second consecutive year. Tampa Bay is +650 to win Super Bowl 56, currently second behind the Kansas City Chiefs (+475) for shortest odds to win the championship. With nearly the entire roster back on both sides of the ball from their Super Bowl-winning season, expectations remain enormously high with Tom Brady still under center.

While I'm picking the Bucs to win in Week 1 as my "survivor" team, I wonder if we'll see this number continue to move, possibly as high as 8.5 or 9.0-points. If it gets that high, I may hold my nose and back the Cowboys plus the points, knowing that the value is there, especially for a potential back door cover with it being outside of a one-possession game.

If you expect Dallas to just show up, grabbing them at +22.5 on WynnBET would be difficult to pass up, no matter where the final line closes.
