Under Mike Leach, Mississippi State throws the ball all over the yard more than just about any other team in the country. Will Rogers had a fantastic day last week in the Bulldogs win over Memphis, and now Mississippi State has to take on another 1-0 team.

Arizona had its way with a talented San Diego State team. The Wildcats have already matched their win total from a year ago and look like a different team in Jedd Fisch’s second year.

Mississippi State vs. Arizona Prediction and Pick

Will Rogers threw for 450 yards and five touchdowns last week in Mississippi State’s 49-23 win over Memphis. In 2021 Memphis’s defense ranked 91st in the country in total defense and 102nd in passing yards allowed per game in 2021.

Arizona ranked 100th in total defense a year ago, so Mississippi State could hang even more points on them. However, what really matters against a Mike Leach team is passing defense and the Wildcats were 14th in the country in passing defense last season.

Arizona also only allowed 62 passing yards last week against San Diego State. Sure the Aztecs are a run first offense, but that is an impressive defensive performance.

The Wildcats are big home dogs and Jayden de Laura looked good at QB last week, the defense was stout especially against the pass, but I’m just not ready to overreact to one week. SDSU was good last year, but maybe it fell off this season. Maybe it is a disaster on offense and the Wildcats defense is not that good.

What I feel like I know is that both offenses are functional and put up points. I easily see a route for both teams to get to 30 points and that is enough.

Pick: Over 59.5 (-110)
