Mississippi State vs. Arkansas Prediction and Odds (Where does the Value Lie in SEC Matchup?)
By Reed Wallach
Arkansas is on a roll as we get into the heat of SEC play, ripping off seven straight wins and starting to look like the NCAA Tournament contender we envisioned before the season.
Now, they face a stiff test with No. 1 Auburn on the horizon with Mississippi State coming to Fayetteville. How will the team perform against Ben Howland's club? Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook.
Mississippi State vs. Arkansas Odds, Spread and Total
Spread:
- Mississippi State: +6.5 (-110)
- Arkansas: -6.5 (-110)
Moneyline:
- Mississippi State: +210
- Arkansas: -260
Total: 146.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
Mississippi State vs. Arkansas Prediction and Pick
This should be a physical matchup with two teams that profile as tourney teams and I eer towards the Bulldogs staying within the number against a Hogs team that could be looking ahead. Mississippi State is a great rebounding club that can make a living on the offensive glass. The team is top 10 nationally in second chance conversion rate, per Haslemetrics.
Meanwhile, Arkansas continues to struggle from the perimeter, ranking just inside the top 200 in three-point percentage. However, what the Razorbacks can do is run. The Bulldogs like to play at a methodical pace, placing outside the top 300 in tempo, but the Hogs are top 50 in that metric. If Mississippi State can't avoid live ball turnovers they can dig themselves a big hole early.
The spot screams to take Mississippi State to hang around, but I can't back them to win outright given the fact that Arkansas profiles as a top 10 team since the beginning of January, per Barttorvik.com. I like the Razorbacks to win, and will look to key in on them in moneyline parlays in what could be a back-and-forth affair. For what it's worth Miss. State has not won a true road game this season.
PICK: Arkansas ML as a parlay piece
