The Mississippi State Bulldogs lost a close one last week against the LSU Tigers, 28-25. The Bulldogs scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to close the gap, but it wasn’t enough. Head coach Mike Leach and his air-raid offense still picked up 371 yards through the air against the Tigers defense. This week Mississippi State’s pass-happy offense will face the Texas A&M Aggies ninth-ranked passing defense, allowing just 119.5 passing yards per game.

Texas A&M took its first loss of the season last week, falling to the quickly rising Arkansas Razorbacks, 20-10. Running back Isaiah Spiller had another solid game, rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown, but quarterback Zach Calzada struggled against the Arkansas defense, completing 20 of 36 passes for only 151 yards.

Mississippi State vs. Texas A&M Prediction

Texas A&M passing defense has been good all season, but has yet to face an offense quite like these Bulldogs. The Aggies defense halted Kent State quarterback Dustin Crum (190.5 passing yards per game), Colorado quarterback Brendon Lewis (78.3 passing yards per game) and New Mexico quarterback Terry Wilson (187 passing yards per game). Can the defense hold back Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers (363 passing yards per game)?

Isaiah Spiller has been the main man for this Texas A&M offense since quarterback Haynes King went down with an injury, but he will have to find some space to run against the Bulldogs 18th-ranked rushing defense (70 rushing yards allowed per game).

I believe that Mississippi State will show that this Aggies’ defense can be thrown on and they will pull off the road upset.

I’m taking the Bulldogs at +7 and on the moneyline at +237.
