Today, I only have one matchup on my mind, and that’s the Houston Astros against the New Yankees. As a native Houstonian and also a Yankees fan, this is my Civil War. These teams have been rivals for several years now, and this is their first meeting of the season. I’m looking at a player prop, a total prop and making a pick on the game.

Let’s get right into the bets for today, with odds coming from consensus lines and WynnBET Sportsbook.

MLB Best Bets Today

  • Jameson Taillon UNDER 4.5 Strikeouts (-164)
  • Yankees ML vs. Astros (-122)
  • Yankees/Astros UNDER 8 (-105)

Jameson Taillon UNDER 4.5 Strikeouts (-164)

Tailon has cleared this line in his last two starts, but I don’t see the Astros being the best matchup for him. The Astros average the third-fewest strikeouts per game (7.31). Tailon is consistently around this number and has cleared several times over his most recent starts, but he’s clearing this line by the hook. I’ll fade his hot hand today and look for the bullpen to do a lot of the work

Yankees ML (-122)/ UNDER 8 Runs (-105)

The Yankees got back on track yesterday with a win over the Tampa Bay Rays, and I think that energy continues today. New York is the best team in baseball and at times the only thing in question about the Yankees is whether they’ll cover or not.

It will be a challenge tonight as Framber Valdez is starting for the Astros. Valdez has only allowed four home runs all season – which is the bread and butter of the Yankees offense. However, three of those four have come in the last six starts. If the Yankees can get going against Valdez, this game could open up quickly.

Jameson Taillon will take the mound for the Yankees. Taillon comes into this matchup with a 2.70 ERA – tied for 15th best in baseball. Both pitchers are set up for success today, but I can see both of them struggling if the offenses find a groove early.

Still, I’m going to look to the UNDER as I expect the opening game of this series to be a tough, grind-it-out win.
