The weekend is winding down but that doesn’t mean our plays of the day have to.

We have a trifecta of top plays to end the week in the black.

Let’s jump right into these plays with current odds from WynnBET Sportsbook.

MLB Best Bets Today

  • Yankees RL vs. Red Sox (-105)
  • Blue Jays ML vs. Mariners (-120)
  • Giants ML vs. Padres (105)

Rays ML vs. Reds (-137)

Despite dropping back-to-back games against the putrid Cincinnati Reds, the Tampa Bay Rays are still a far superior team. They were playing well before being slightly embarrassed so far this weekend and I expect them to come out swinging today.

This game features two rookie starters, so anything can happen in this showdown. But, I have some concerns about the Reds’ Nick Lodolo. With a 4.19 ERA and 1.50 WHIP, I suppose that should be obvious. But, that isn’t even my issue with him. Lodolo has some nasty stuff but has to limit his walk and home runs if he hopes to get his ERA below 4.00. In four starts this year, Lodolo has allowed three home runs and eight walks. He’s racking up strikeouts, but at the cost of a lot of runs.

Shane Baz, on the other hand, has a K:BB percentage of 18.8 and does not have the traditional control issues that many rookies experience. With a 2.92 ERA and 1.14 WHIP, he is exactly what the Rays were hoping for when they called him up in mid-June. He hasn’t allowed more than one run in his last four starts.

Astros RL vs. Athletics (-110)

If I had to sit down and rank the best teams in baseball on paper, the Astros would be near the top of that list. Meanwhile, if one would rank the worst teams, the A’s might be atop the list in 2022. At 55-29, the Astros lead the AL West and hold a 12-game lead over the Seattle Mariners for the division lead.

Oakland, on the other hand, is running away with the worst record in the division. They are 27 games off the lead and really can’t be trusted to beat anyone most days. Oakland did eke out a 3-2 win last night and I expect that the Astros will be out for revenge in this series finale.

With Jake Odorizzi on the mound, I feel good about their chances to keep the A’s in check en route to an ATS cover.

Miami ML vs. Mets (+100)

The odds for this game continue to creep closer to a pick 'em. But, for now, the Miami Marlins are still plus money underdogs on the road against the New York Mets.

With Sandy Alcantara making the start for Miami, I can’t pass up the value on this team. Alcantara enters at 9-3 with a 1.82 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. All three figures rank him in the top 5 of the league while his 107 strikeouts are 10th best.

This may be an away game for Miami, but Alcantara has been dominant on the road at 4-1 with a 2.11 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 55 ⅓ innings. Even with a red-hot Taijuan Walker on the hill for New York, I think Miami overcomes on the back of Alcantara.
