MLB Best Bets Today (Predictions for Nolan Arenado, Brandon Woodruff and Rays-Jays on Sunday)
By Peter Dewey
Want to get the Fourth of July off to a good start?
Betting on the action in Major League Baseball on Sunday is a fun way to kick off the holiday weekend, and I have a few plays that I love for today’s slate.
We’ve got a loaded 15-game slate to choose from, but here are my three favorite bets at WynnBET Sportsbook for Sunday, July 3:
MLB Best Bets Today
- Toronto Blue Jays Moneyline vs. Tampa Bay Rays (-135)
- Brandon Woodruff OVER 15.5 Outs Recorded (-110)
- Nolan Arenado OVER 0.5 Total Bases (-180)
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays: Blue Jays Moneyline (-135)
We’ve got a solid pitching matchup in Toronto with youngster Shane Baz taking on the red-hot Ross Stripling on Sunday.
Baz has been solid in four starts this season, compiling a 3.38 ERA and 3.55 FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching), but he hasn’t given the Rays much length, pitching into the sixth inning just twice.
Stripling is the starter I want to back here, as the Jays have won five of his last six starts since putting him back in the starting rotation. Stripling has been money over that stretch, allowing two or fewer runs in all six starts and posting a 1.59 ERA and opponent batting average of just .198.
I’ll trust him to get the Jays a win at home on Sunday.
Brandon Woodruff OVER 15.5 Outs Recorded (-110)
It’s been a rough 2022 season for Milwaukee Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff, who landed on the injured list earlier this season with Raynaud’s syndrome, a circulatory condition that causes numbness in the extremities due to reduced blood flow.
However, Woodruff looked like his old self in his first start back on June 28, tossing five innings of two-hit, 10-strikeout ball in a win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Woodruff needed just 76 pitches to get through five innings, and I think he has a bit of a longer leash against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.
Pittsburgh ranks 27th in hosts, 28th in runs scored and 28th in OPS this season. I think Woodruff works into the sixth inning in what should be an easy win for Milwaukee.
Nolan Arenado OVER 0.5 Total Bases (-180)
Is there anyone in baseball hotter than Nolan Arenado right now?
The St. Louis Cardinals star hit for the cycle on Friday night, and he followed that up with a two-homer game on Saturday.
Over his last 10 games, Arenado has 16 hits and has cleared 0.5 total bases in seven of those games.
Yes, Zack Wheeler is a tough pitching matchup on Sunday Night Baseball, but the Phillies also have a terrible bullpen. I think Arenado finds a way to keep his hot hitting going on Sunday.
