There may not be a better rivalry in all of sports than the one between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, and we will be treated to the fourth series between the two teams this season beginning tonight at Fenway Park.

The Yankees will be sending Jordan Montgomery to the mound against Boston’s Tanner Houck. Montgomery will be making his third start against Boston in the past month, and he’s been serviceable, but not great, against the Red Sox this season.

On the year, Montgomery is 3-5 with a 4.18 earned run average, but he’s allowed six runs and 11 hits in 12 innings against Boston through his first two starts. While he did record two quality starts, Montgomery hasn’t been able to get the Sox to strike out, and for that reason I’m fading his strikeout prop on WynnBET tonight.

WynnBET has Montgomery projected to record 5.5 strikeouts with the over (+100) as the underdog to the under (-130). Montgomery has struck out 99 batters through 99.0 innings this season, but he hasn’t lived up to that rate against Boston.

Through his two starts against the Red Sox, Montgomery struck out just nine batters (five on June 26, four on July 16) despite pitching six innings in both games. The Red Sox are in the middle of the pack in terms of strikeouts per game at 8.66 (14th in MLB), but they will now get a third look at Montgomery in 26 days.

If you really want to fade Montgomery, he has -250 odds to come away with a loss or no decision in this one. While you may not want to lay the -250 juice, the Yankees have been horrible in Montgomery’s starts as of late. Not only have they lost in his last four starts, but New York hasn’t scored a run while Montgomery was pitching since June 15.

If you think they can turn it around, Montgomery is +175 to pick up the win tonight. I’m not as confident to lay the -250 juice, but I will be fading Montgomery’s strikeout prop. Boston has looked decent against him already this year, and the more looks the Sox get, the worse it is for Montgomery’s chances of fooling hitters tonight.

The Yankees are +120 underdogs on the moneyline in Boston.
