Due to the rain, the Guardians-Yankees Game 2 got moved to today, which means we get playoff baseball even sooner!

Both of the NLDS series are tied at 1-1, with Game 3 being a pivotal one. We have a couple aces on the mound in the NL and a fantastic pitching matchup in the ALDS.

Let’s jump right into it and check out the matchups for today’s slate.

Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Yankees Probable Pitchers

  • Guardians: Shane Bieber
  • Yankees: Nestor Cortes

This is Shane Bieber’s first start against the Yankees this season, so all we have to go off of is his road stats. Bieber is 8-3 on the road, and sees his ERA drop from 2.88 to 2.65. Bieber is coming off a dominant start to begin the postseason – keeping the Rays hitless through four innings. If Bieber can give another great performance, then the Yankees are in trouble.

On the other side, Nestor Cortes has loved playing against the Guardians this year. His OBA against Cleveland is .100, with just three earned runs in 12.1 innings pitched. With Cortes having a dominant history against the Guardians, tonight’s pitching matchup will steal the show.

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies Probable Pitchers

  • Braves: UNDECIDED
  • Phillies: Aaron Nola

Odds (TBD)

Nola comes into this game, exactly how the Phillies want him to. He’s pitched 13.1 scoreless innings over his last two starts and has struck out 15 batters in the process. Against Atlanta, he’s had a few issues, but overall has been decent. He’s 3-2 with a 3.67 ERA. If he can get anywhere near the level he’s been at over the last two starts, it’s going to be a tough Game 3 for the reigning champs.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Probable Pitchers

  • Dodgers: Tony Gonsolin
  • Padres Blake Snell

Gonsolin, in just two games against the Padres, was absolutely dominant this year.  He had a 0.71 ERA and an OBA of .156. If he can tap into the zone he was in during the regular season, the Dodgers will be a tough group to beat. Gonsolin was also 7-0 on the road with a 2.66 ERA.

As for Blake Snell, he wasn’t as successful at home. He was 4-8 with a 3.56 ERA. Those numbers don’t get much better against the Dodgers. His ERA rose to 3.86, and he gave up six runs in 14 innings. This isn’t shaking up to be a great matchup for San Diego, but anything is possible in October.
