MLB Probable Pitchers for Thursday, October 13 (Who's Starting for Every MLB Team and Matchup Today?)
The National League had its time to shine yesterday. Today is all about the American League. We have a pair of Game 2s, with the Houston Astros and New York Yankees looking to take commanding 2-0 leads at home.
Seattle, who lost in walk-off fashion in Game 1, has Luis Castillo on the mound tonight, hoping he can shut the Astros’ down. The Cleveland Guardians are putting their ace on the rubber tonight too, expecting to get the series all nodded up.
Let’s dive further into the matchups for Game 2 of the ALDS.
Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros Probable Pitchers
- Mariners: Luis Castillo
- Astros: Framber Valdez
While Valdez’ home ERA and OBA are higher than his road numbers, he doesn’t let the ball fly out of the park a lot. The key for him will be keeping things that way and forcing the Mariners to play small ball.
Luis Castillo was brought in for this exact situation. However, his 3.29 road ERA and 4-5 record is a little concerning. Nevertheless, he’s coming off a fantastic start against the Blue Jays so I’ll give him some credit coming into this one.
Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Yankees Probable Pitchers
- Guardians: Shane Bieber
- Yankees: Nestor Cortes
This is Shane Bieber’s first start against the Yankees this season, so all we have to go off of is his road stats. Bieber is 8-3 on the road, and sees his ERA drop from 2.88 to 2.65. Bieber is coming off a dominant start to begin the postseason – keeping the Rays hitless through four innings. If Bieber can give another great performance, then the Yankees are in trouble.
On the other side, Nestor Cortes has loved playing against the Guardians this year. His OBA against Cleveland is .100, with just three earned runs in 12.1 innings pitched. With Cortes having a dominant history against the Guardians, tonight’s pitching matchup will steal the show.
