There is nothing more fun in sports betting than winning big off an underdog. Tonight, I think we have a good shot to pull off such a win when the New York Mets take on the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park.

Despite leading the NL East with a 28-15 record, the Mets are getting no love by the books tonight against the third-place Giants. A Giants team that has lost four in a row and six of their last eight. The Giants also lost three of four at the hands of the Mets earlier this year.  So what gives?

Here are the odds for this game, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook

Mets vs. Giants Odds, Run Line, and Total

Run Line

  • Mets: +1.5 (-170)
  • Giants: -1.5 (+140)

Moneyline:

  • Mets: +130
  • Giants: -140

Total:

  • Total 7.5 (Over -120/Under +100)

Mets vs. Giants Prediction and Pick

The only reason I can see the Mets not being favored in this game would be David Peterson's last start for New York. Peterson gave up three earned runs on four hits over five innings against the Braves. Despite the shaky performance, however, the Mets still won that game.

New York is 3-1 in games that Peterson pitches after getting a late start to the season. He will be making his fifth appearance and sports a 1.89 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 19 innings. Peterson might still be a bit of a question mark long-term but has looked very sharp overall in four appearances.

Also, let's not forget that the Mets are in first place in the division with the third-best record in the National League. There is a lot more to this team than Peterson. New York is the third-best money team in terms of betting, the Mets are also a great road team at 15-7.

And, if we are basing these odds off recent pitching results, why is Alex Cobb being ignored? He has an ERA of 11.81 in the last week of play after getting torched by the Rockies. In 5 ⅓ innings, Cobb gave up seven earned runs off ten hits. I have less faith in him against the Mets than I do with Peterson and it’s not even close.

Pick: Mets +130 to win
