MLB Underdog of the Day (Mets Again Questionable Underdogs Against Giants)
By Matt De Saro
Another day and another questionable line on a New York Mets game. It feels almost the same as yesterday when the Mets were underdogs to the San Francisco Giants on the road. They were my best underdog bet of the day and came through with a huge 13-3 win over the Giants.
And yet, we’re right back where we started, albeit with slightly less value on the ML. I feel again like the oddsmakers are ignoring the fact the Mets are one of the best teams in the league and are 16-7 on the road.
Here are the odds for this game, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.
Mets vs. Giants Odds, Run Line, and Total
Run Line
- Mets: +1.5 (-190)
- Giants: -1.5 (+150)
Moneyline:
- Mets: +115
- Giants: -125
Total:
- Total 7.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
Mets vs. Giants Prediction and Pick
I said yesterday that the Mets are not just a team that relies on pitching. I think their 13-run night did a lot to prove that point. Why the odds were stacked against them when facing off against Alex Cobb is a mystery to me. One that I feel is replaying itself today as I look over the specifics of this game.
Once again, we have what could end up being a good pitching duel. Chris Bassitt will take the hill for the Mets in what I can describe as almost the same situation that David Peterson was in last night.
Bassitt is having a killer season but had a bad game his last time out. He still has a 2.77 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 48 ⅔ innings. So why the fade here? Logan Webb is starting for SF and while he’s having a fine season, there is nothing to suggest that he’s that much better than Bassitt. I would argue he’s noticeably worse in fact.
Webb also got knocked around once already by the Mets and I just don’t see the reasoning behind why he and the Giants are favored again here.
Pick: New York Mets +115 to Win
