Some mornings when I sit down to pick out my underdog pick of the day I struggle to find a truly qualified candidate.

Some days are just better than others for dogs. I think today is one of those days as the New York Mets are +111 road dogs in San Diego.

Despite the best record in the National League and second-best in the MLB, the Mets are not favored in this game. They beat the Friars last night 11-5 to move to 9-2 in their last 11 games and still, they are not expected to win tonight according to the books. I’m just not seeing it.

Best MLB Underdog Pick Today

Usually, in a situation like this, there is a significant pitching mismatch to take into account. I don't believe that to be the case here with Taijuan Walker and Yu Darvish squaring off. Walker enters at 3-1 with a 2.88 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 40 ⅔ innings. It’s not as if he had a bad start his last time out after giving up two runs in 5 ⅔ innings to the Dodgers.

L.A. is a very good offense and Walker looked great all things considered. I would like to see some more strikeouts, but he isn’t giving up many walks so it kinda evens out.

Are those the numbers of a guy you want to fade? It's gonna be a no from me dawg.

Yu Darvish is having a good season for the Padres at 4-3 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. But, he has not been as sharp as Walker. Darvish has been very unpredictable this year and is coming off a five-run game where he got beat up by the Cardinals last week. It was the second time he’s given up five or more runs in his previous four games. Plus, the Padres overall are 3-5 straight up in their last eight.

As I said before, I just don’t see the reasoning behind the Padres being favored here. They are not a bad team, not even close. But, the Mets have been consistent winners and already cruised the Friars in the last 24 hours.
