There were quite a few teams I tried to talk myself into to be my underdog of the day. I just couldn’t make a compelling enough case. I even tried to shoehorn my Pittsburgh Pirates into being the pick and I tried to go back to the well and pick the Baltimore Orioles for the 1,000th time this season. Nothing would stick.
I needed something on the board to sing to me. So naturally, I found Kansas City Royals Brady Singer facing the struggling Chicago White Sox.

But, they actually split with the Astros at the very beginning of this poor stretch of play.
The Chicago offense ranks in the bottom third of the league the past week, but it’s the pitching that's looked miserable. Over the past 15 days, their staff ranks 27th in the MLB in ERA at 5.52. They have given up 65 runs and 14 homers in those 12 games.
Lucas Giolito starts for the White Sox and he has gone from looking like an ace and a longshot Cy Young candidate to a disaster in 2021. He has a 5.14 ERA in 23 starts and has been worth -0.1 wins according to Baseball Reference WAR (wins-above-replacement).
The real key to this underdog is Brady Singer. The starting pitcher for the Royals has a 3.15 ERA, has won his last four starts and the Royals are 12-9 when he takes the mound. Despite being 52-77 overall. Singer has faced Chicago four times this season and has a 2.04 ERA against them.
He’s going to do it again tonight and extend the White Sox losing streak to five.
