MLB Underdog of the Day (Grab a Cy Young Favorite at an Underdog Price for Marlins vs. Phillies)
By Matt De Saro
The Philadelphia Phillies host the Miami Marlins on Monday; kicking off a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park in hopes of moving back above .500.
The Phillies have been one of the hottest teams in MLB over the last two weeks, and are 9-1 in their previous 10 heading into this series. The surge is thanks to their offense which was expected to dominate at the beginning of the season. Through the last week and a half, it appears to have woken up after a slow start.
The Marlins, while not as dominant, played very well over the same span and enter this tilt 7-3 in their last 10 games. The Marlins' offense has also been busy, scoring a total of 34 runs in their previous five wins. Despite the odds, I think the Marlins present a great chance to win as underdogs, thanks to some studly pitching on the mound.

Best MLB Underdog Pick Today
The pitcher in question here is the Marlins ace, Sandy Alcantara.
The 26-year-old righty has been phenomenal this year at 6-2 with a 1.61 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 83 ⅔ innings. The last time we saw him, Alcantara spun a complete-game shutout over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. The Marlins' offense stumbled and cost him a win, but he was flawless nonetheless.
Miami has won seven of his starts in a row and if Alcantara continues on like this, an NL Cy Young award is certainly a possibility. He’s given up two or fewer runs in 11 of 12 starts and I see no reason to doubt him as a betting underdog here.
The Phillies might be the “hot” pick right now to make in the NL East, but the Marlins are not to be ignored. They are riding a similar hot streak and have possibly the best pitcher in baseball on the mound tonight.
Pick: Marlins +120 ML
