MLB Underdog of the Day (Let Down Spot for Mets in Miami)
By Josh Yourish
There are a couple of good underdogs out there today if you are plus sign hunting on a Friday night. Some of the best things you want to look for in an underdog is one that is home and one with an ace on the mound. If you can find both of those things in one bet, then you’re really in business.
There’s just one little special treat to this bet too. In football season, we always think about let down spots after a big win. Well now we have a let down spot in the MLB.
Are you excited? You should be.

Best MLB Underdog Pick Today
Sandy Alcantara has given up two runs in each of his last two starts and that is considered a bad stretch for the man. He is starting tonight for Miami as they host the Mets and Chris Bassitt. I’m putting my money on Alcantara every time. He is 9-4 with a 1.81 ERA. His expected ERA is in the 92nd percentile, his expected slugging is in the 90th percentile, and his chase rate is in the 89th percentile.
Alcantara’s changeup is his best pitch with a -15 run value which is the fourth best pitch in the MLB by run value. Alcantara is 2-1 against New York this year and the last time he faced the Mets' lineup, he went seven scoreless. He has 10 or more strikeouts in three of his four starts in July.
Oh, and the let down spot. This might be the most important aspect of this bet. You might think that the Mets are riding high after sweeping two games in the Subway Series, but that means they are more susceptible than ever. If you think there they aren’t going to be ready to celebrate beating the Yankees twice while they’re in Miami, you're mistaken.
Pick: Marlins ML +105
