MLB Underdog of the Day (Nationals Should Never Be Favored with Joan Adon on the Mound)

The Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals are back on the field for the second time on Saturday for Game 2 of today’s doubleheader. On the face of things, there is nothing exciting about this game between two last-place teams. What interests me in this game is the fact that the Nationals are favored to win the game in what I see as a huge mismatch on the mound.

Rockies vs. Nationals Prediction and Pick

I have been happy to fade Joan Adon this year and at 1-8, he’s been doing great work for me. He enters this game with a 6.97 ERA and 1.72 WHIP in 41 ⅓ innings and a 1:1 K/BB rate in May. Gross. In addition to that, he is coming off a six-run disaster against the Dodgers on Monday. I get that the Nationals are showing signs of life with wins over the Dodgers and Rockies in consecutive games. But, I am really expected to get excited over two back-to-back wins? The oddsmakers seem to think so.

I'm choosing to avoid that trap and will be siding with the Rockies and Chad Kuhl on the road in this doubleheader. Kuhl is 3-2 with a 3.67 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 41 ⅔ innings. He has been bad in May with an ERA of 6.00. But that can be chalked up to getting crushed twice by the Giants in consecutive stats. Even still, his stats look Cy Young worthy when compared to Adon and I think the Rockies are a great underdog bet to take Game 2 this evening.

Pick: Rockies +105 ML
