MLB Underdog of the Day (Take a Chance on the Giants with Logan Webb Going)
By Matt De Saro
The San Diego Padres are riding a four-game losing streak at home as they prepare to host the San Francisco Giants today.
The Padres suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of the Seattle Mariners earlier this week and look to get back on track at Petco Park. With their current ace Joe Musgrove on the mound, they will put their best foot forward.
However, Logan Webb is no pushover for the Giants and I like the value they carry on the road this afternoon. Here are the odds for this showdown from WynnBET Sportsbook:
Giants vs.Padres Odds, Run Line, and Total
Run Line
- Giants: +1.5 (-200)
- Padres: -1.5 (+165)
Moneyline:
- Giants: +122
- Padres: -132
Total:
- Total 7 (Over +100/Under -120)
Best MLB Underdog Pick Today
There is no denying that Musgrove is one of the best pitchers in baseball right now. I can’t say I feel great about fading him, but I do think the Giants will do enough damage in this game to pull out an underdog win.
Over the last couple of weeks, Musgrove has hit a bit of a rough path with less than ideal results against the Dodgers and Phillies. The Padres have lost his last two starts as a result of these uncharacteristically shaky outings. Perhaps the most concerning part of this mini-slump was notching a single strikeout against the Phillies in six innings. Musgrove still has phenomenal numbers overall and I don’t expect this cold streak to last too long. Hopefully just long enough to cash this play.
Webb, meanwhile, allowed just four combined runs over his last four starts and looks very sharp. He has two shutouts in that span as well. The righty also has solid numbers against the current Padres lineup with a .199 batting average and zero home runs in 72 at-bats.
This game is shaping up to be a tight one but I feel good about the Giants coming through for us in the series opener.
Pick: Giants +122
